Northern Lights Iceland

Our big trip to Iceland will start in Reykjavik, where we arrive in the morning and check in to the hotel. From the day until the evening, we will walk around the city, see how Icelanders live, and visit several interesting places. We will visit the Hallgrímskirkja Cathedral, look at the boat sculpture by the sea, walk along the streets, and when it gets dark, we will go to the pier to the lighthouse. Perhaps we will be lucky enough to see the Aurora Borealis tonight. And at dinner, we will celebrate the beginning of an incredible journey.

In the morning, we get into a minivan and travel along the Golden Circle of Iceland. We stop at the Thingvellir National Park and head to the Haukadalur Geyser Valley, where we will be interested in one of the largest geysers in the world - Strokkur, which spews water every 10 minutes 20-40 meters upwards. You don't see this much anywhere else, but it is possible in Iceland because it is a land of glaciers, volcanoes, and waterfalls. You can spend the whole day in the Geyser Valley, there is a lot to see, but we also have to visit the Gullfoss waterfall. Daylight hours in Iceland are short, polar nights prevail, and we will likely be able to see the Aurora Borealis near this waterfall. At the end of the trip around the Golden Circle, we go to the hotel to rest.

It is impossible to describe Iceland in words, especially regarding its scenery entirely. So, in the morning, we head west across the island to the Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss waterfalls. Two of the most beautiful waterfalls in Iceland are just a rocket bomb. Then, we will visit the Black Beach with a steep observation deck - Dyrhólaey, where you can see an arch of rocks on which the waves of the Atlantic break. Walking on the black sand is incredible. It is surrounded by rocks and the ocean, which looks like a dragon's lair. We will go to another interesting location - the wreckage of an airplane that crashed in the seventies. Of course, we will try to wait for the Aurora Borealis because we will hunt for it daily.

Daylight hours in Iceland are very short in winter. Today, we have a special mission. We are going to explore ice caves, so we are going to the Vatnajökull glacier. We put on our crampons and go to the ice caves. These caves look like crystals, and we want to pinch ourselves and make sure that it's not a dream but real. After exploring the caves, we move to Lake Jokulsarlon, where huge icebergs that broke off from the glacier float. We walk along the strait to the ocean and come to Diamond Beach. It was named so because dozens of icebergs that look like huge diamonds wash ashore here, and we'll take some great photos of ourselves because otherwise, no one will believe that you're holding a several-kilogram diamond in your hands.

Today, we have a freer program - we can catch up with everything we did not have time to see during daylight yesterday. We'll take another look at the Reynisdrangar Basalt Pillars and the Hálsanefshellir cave. But we have saved a few surprises for you, one of them is the Svartifoss waterfall. It won't be easy to surprise you with something, but it is gorgeous. And the second surprise is Icelandic horses, which we can meet today. And how could we miss the Myrdalsjökull glacier, of course, we are going there as well. We will spend the night in a guesthouse near the glacier, where we can watch the Aurora Borealis.

It's time to relax a bit and have a rest like real Vikings. First, we go to the Kerid crater, the size of this crater is shocking because it is huge! After a short walk along its slopes, we continue to the Blue Lagoon. Just imagine: it's freezing outside, and we're swimming in the warm springs of the Blue Lagoon, the pleasure of this is incredible, and if it's snowing, it's a bomb, a whole day of relaxation and pleasure. It is impossible to convey these emotions, so you must try it. When we're warm enough, we'll go to the hotel to rest and get ready for the next day - tomorrow will be something incredible.

Something incredible is theSnaefellsnes Peninsula and Mount Kirkjufell. You have seen this place because it is one of the most beautiful locations in the world. Waterfalls flow into the river against the backdrop of a mountain that looks like the Matterhorn mountain. There are many different locations and viewpoints on this peninsula; fortunately, we will be able to visit most of them and see all the views. The main event will take place in the evening. We will go to Mount Kirkjufell and try to catch the Aurora Borealis against its background - it will be a wonderful moment and an incredible end to our trip.

Time passes quickly, especially when you're in Iceland. You don't want to use social media and do anything just admire the nature of the ice country. Today it's time to go home. So, in the morning, we are going to Reykjavik, buying some souvenirs for our loved ones in the city, and going to the airport. This will be the end of our trip, but we are sure that after this trip, you will definitely want to go again, so we will meet you somewhere else in the next GRA travels.
